When I start a painting I am not looking for the completion of a long series. Most of these have started by a humble approach to what I have around, with no more ambition than to paint a single canvas at the most. From there, it happens that I can be later involved in a long series of works, establishing coordinates sometimes of time, light, movement… But I always wonder if these constraints will suffocate certain spontaneity. When painting I try to feel uninhibited, finding an adventure in each work where initially there is just a vague idea, to finally obtain a surprising result. Then, on explaining what this “Discontinuities” collection is all about, I have to ask myself why all my works have not been a discontinuity?
